The year is 1816. The setting is London, England. The Prince of Wales is named Regent to act for George III, who is now insane. The Lords and Ladies of the land are trying to gain favor from their soon to be king, as all know George III will shortly die. But two clashing families of nobility cause problems in all of London. You are with neither of them, trying to befriend both. The war between the two families has been waging for years and few know the true reason behind the war. Some say it was when one Marquis of Saxmore married the woman one of the Torrance Duke’s loved or some other thing to do with love. Others say it was a trade agreement gone wrong. But what everyone agrees on is that there is a feud.
The Marquis of Saxmore, widower Lord Frederick Kilal, is the last male of the Kilal’s to have the title. He has no sons, merely one daughter who often seems to act as a man. She is extremely eccentric but kind and surprisingly, even tempered. Even tempered until the Torrance name is brought up. Melania Kilal, heir to the Marquisette has hated the Torrance’s since her tenth birthday ball. They caused her to become a small image to be watched. She left her home and her father to escape the forever watching eyes. Because of that, she never forgave the Torrance’s. But like her father, she will never act outright rude to them, at least she will try not to. But often, the temper she keeps in check to everyone else is released to a Torrance. She will just play her part in the masquerade of life.
The Torrance family is currently made up of four young men, spanning between the ages of twenty-five (the current Duke) and nineteen. They are the most eligible bachelors of the season and constantly discussed at nearly every social gathering. They each have their own unique personality and the Duke seems carefree and people don’t understand how he hasn’t run his family to the ground yet. But appearances are deceiving.
But then again, life is just a play. So aren’t we all involved in the masquerade?
